Leopard Rescue Operation Successful in Andhra Pradesh’s Wilderness

Residents of Devanagaram, Andhra Pradesh, panicked as a leopard got trapped in an abandoned well in the nearby forest on Wednesday. Swift response by the Tirupati Forest Rescue Team included setting a baited cage. After nearly 24 hours, officials, led by YV Narasimha Rao, successfully rescued the leopard by Thursday evening.

Andhra Pradesh: Residents of Devanagaram, in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district, were thrown into panic when a leopard became trapped in an abandoned well in the nearby forest area. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with locals immediately alerting forest officials.

Responding swiftly, the Tirupati Forest Rescue Team launched a rescue operation, setting up a cage with a goat as bait. Despite initial efforts, the leopard remained elusive, prompting officials to escalate the situation to BNS Murthy, overseeing the district.

Over nearly 24 hours, officials coordinated efforts to rescue the animal, which had fallen into the 9.5 feet deep well in search of food.

Eventually, with meticulous planning and numerous attempts, the forest team successfully extricated the leopard at around 7:50 pm on Thursday.

YV Narasimha Rao, deputy director of the Nagarjuna Sagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, Andhra Pradesh (NSTR), supervised the operation, ensuring the animal’s safe capture and subsequent transfer for medical treatment.

Plans are underway to release the leopard back into its natural habitat within the deep forest, marking the successful conclusion of a tense wildlife rescue effort in the region.
