West Bengal: TMC Leader Rajjak Khan Shot And Hacked To Death In Bhangar, Probe Underway

A formal investigation into the case is currently underway, stated Kolkata Police. Rajjak Khan was an active leader in the Bhangar Assembly constituency.

Kolkata: Kolkata: A local TMC leader, Rajjak Khan, was shot and hacked to death by unidentified people on Thursday at around 9:45 p.m. Kolkata Police confirmed the incident and stated that Khan was attacked near Siristala while returning home. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A formal investigation into the case is currently underway. Khan was an active leader in the Bhangar assembly constituency.

The statement from Kolkata police read: “Around 9.45 pm yesterday, one Rajjak Khan of Chak Maricha village, Chaltaberia Gram Panchayat was attacked by a few persons near Siristala under Uttar Kashipore PS while returning home. He was shifted to a hospital and was declared dead there. Investigation has been initiated.”

According to reports, Khan was ambushed near a canal while returning home from Bhangar Bazar to Maricha. The assailants first opened fire on him and then attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Kashipur police station was alerted about the incident and arrived at the scene shortly afterward.

MLA Molla Demands Immediate Arrest

Meanwhile, Canning East MLA Saokat Molla claimed that ISF-backed miscreants were behind the attack and demanded their arrest. “This is the work of ISF-backed miscreants. Razzak was returning home after party work. The attackers not only shot him, but also slashed his neck. They should be arrested immediately,” Molla said.

“He was our active and strong worker and leader in the Bhangar Assembly area. ISF supported anti-social elements have done this under the instructions of Noushad Siddiqui. We have requested the police and the Chief Minister to arrest them immediately,” he added.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the area to track down the killers, while several locals were interrogated on Thursday. The autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on Friday. Preliminary investigations suggest that multiple attackers were involved in the murder. The crime scene, located next to a canal, is currently deserted.
