Intense showers across Jammu and Kashmir have resulted in a tragic incident in the Shiv Gufa area of Mahore, district Reasi, where two individuals lost their lives due to a landslide that struck their tent during the night. The victims have been identified as Rashpal Singh (26), son of Soba Ram, a resident of Tuli Kalavan in Tehsil Chasana, and Ravi Kumar (23), son of Purushottam Kumar from Chenani, District Udhampur.
In response to this unfortunate event, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin, warning of a low to moderate risk of flash floods in several districts, including Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Baramulla, and Anantnag over the next 24 hours. District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been urged to implement necessary precautions and measures to ensure public safety and mitigate risks.
The IMD has also forecasted generally cloudy weather with intermittent spells of rain and thundershowers likely over many parts of North Kashmir, Central and South Kashmir, Banihal, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, and Kishtwar.
Authorities have advised Shikara owners to suspend boating activities during periods of intense showers and gusty winds. Additionally, farmers have been urged to halt farm operations from July 22 to 24 due to the adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed for vehicular movement following flash floods and mudslides at several locations in the Magerkote area of Ramban district. Officials said that the highway has become unsafe for traffic due to sudden debris accumulation and water blockage. Restoration work is currently underway, and commuters are advised to avoid traveling on the highway until further notice from the traffic department.
