Following the attack, a comprehensive cordon and search operation was launched involving joint teams from the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF. Security forces suspect that three to four terrorists are hiding in the dense jungle of Kokernag. Additional troops have been deployed to secure all possible entry and exit points.

The operation stems from specific intelligence indicating that terrorists responsible for recent violent incidents in Doda had infiltrated from the Kishtwar range of Jammu into South Kashmir. The army and J&K Police have relentlessly tracked these suspects since early August.

Army spokesperson in Srinagar said that On August 10, suspicious movements were detected around 2 PM, prompting an immediate response from security forces. However, they faced heavy fire from terrorists, resulting in injuries sustained by soldiers and civilians alike. The challenging terrain—characterized by high altitudes, thick undergrowth, and rocky outcrops—poses significant operational difficulties.”

The army said that security forces continued their operations during night hours also under the cover of darkness. Reinforcements have arrived to bolster efforts in locating and neutralizing the terrorists believed to be hiding in the region, where operation is underway.
