IMD Weather Alert: Fog, Cold Wave Warning For Punjab, Delhi; Western Disturbance To Bring Rain And Snowfall To J&K

Fog is likely to cut visibility and blanket north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, and Meghalaya from January 3 to 5. Additionally, thick layer of fog will also engulf Uttar Pradesh till the 9th of January.

IMD Weather Update: The ongoing cold wave conditions coupled with fog is potentially impacting the daily life besides posing significant health risks to the citizens. These conditions are expected to continue, particularly affecting northern states – Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a sharp decline in temperature across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar till the 4th of January. Additionally, the colder-than-usual-weather is expected to occur in isolated pockets of Telangana and North Interior Karnataka today.

Western Disturbance To Cause Rain/Snowfall Alert

According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance, seen as a cyclonic circulation over eastern parts of Iran and neighbourhood in lower to upper tropospheric levels is likely to cause isolated-scattered light-moderate rainfall over Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 5 and 6. Additionally, heavy rainfall/ snowfall is expected to disrupt daily life in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on the 4th and 5th of January.

Dense Fog Alert

According to IMD’s latest update and data, dense fog is expected to continue causing traffic disruptions during late night and early morning hours in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Fishermen Warnings

Fishermen are cautioned against going into Gulf of Mannar, Maldives, Comorin area, and southern parts of southeast Arabian sea along Sri Lanka coast until January 5. They are also advised to keep away from southwest and west central Arabian Sea & adjoining Yemen coast January 3 to 6.

AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi

The air quality slipped to the ‘very poor’ category in Delhi/NCR for the second consecutive day on Saturday. The overall AQI was recorded as 383 at 7 am amid low visibility due to dense fog, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to IMD, there has been a slight decline in minimum temperature and rise in maximum temperature up to 1°C across the capital during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded in the range of 13 to 16°C and 6 to 8°C respectively.
