Greater Noida: Good News! Ganga Water Now Flows To 52 Out Of 58 Sectors

In a significant development for residents of Greater Noida, Ganga water is now flowing to 52 out of 58 sectors in the area.

Ganga water supply has been extended to most parts of Greater Noida West, with only a few sectors still awaiting coverage. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) reports that 52 out of 58 sectors in Greater Noida, including eight sectors in Greater Noida West, now receive Ganga water.

The areas still lacking full Ganga water supply include Eta 2, Techzone, and Xu 3 in Greater Noida, and sectors 2, 4, and 16C in Greater Noida West. However, construction of underground reservoirs (UGRs) is underway in these regions. Three UGRs are being built in Greater Noida West, and one in Greater Noida. These reservoirs, with capacities ranging from 1,500 KL to 3,600 KL, are expected to support water supply once completed.

In the interim, water is being managed through a network of pipelines and overhead tanks. Currently, Greater Noida’s water demand stands at 339 MLD, with a supply of 374 MLD, which includes 100 MLD of Ganga water. This water is mixed with groundwater for distribution. Once fully operational, the project will provide 210 MLD of Ganga water, significantly reducing reliance on groundwater.

Nine sectors in the region, including Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Eta 1, now receive 100% Ganga water. Additionally, 67 out of 122 villages under GNIDA’s jurisdiction have been connected to the supply. To further expand access, GNIDA has been encouraging villagers to join the network, as many still rely on borewells. According to GNIDA officials these connections will improve water quality and help protect groundwater levels.

The Rs 848 crore project, which began in 2005, is expected to benefit over 10 lakh people across 58 sectors and villages. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on November 1, 2022, after 17 years of development.
