An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Afghanistan on Saturday, and tremors were also felt in Kashmir. The Epicentre of the earthquake was in Afghanistan, and tremors were felt across North West Pakistan and Northern India.

The earthquake took place at 06:47 AM UTC (12:17 PM local time) with a depth of 86 kilometers, based on seismic records. The epicenter was 36.13°N latitude and 71.38°E longitude, close to the isolated and mountainous border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
The people in the Kashmir Valley felt the tremors and came out of their houses in fear. People in Jammu and Kashmir felt earthquake tremors around 12:20 PM on Saturday. The tremors were especially felt in the Poonch district. Until now, no immediate reports of casualties or widespread damage have come from Afghanistan or India. Officials in both countries are closely tracking the situation and evaluating any potential effect on weak areas.
The area is seismically active as a result of the collision between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates and has a history of devastating earthquakes. Emergency services and disaster response teams have been placed on standby as a precaution.
