Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line To Be ‘Unmanned’ By End Of June

The Delhi Metro's automated network spans approximately 97 kilometers, covering both the Magenta and Pink lines. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has confirmed that the Magenta Line will be completely unmanned by the end of this month

Metro trains running on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro are going to have their driver cabins removed. By the end of June, trains on this line will be fully automated. Currently, attendant-supervised driverless metro trains operate on this line. Eventually, attendants will also be removed. Removing the driver cabins will create more space for passengers inside the metro trains. Driver cabins are located at the front and rear of the train. After the Magenta Line, the Pink Line of the metro will also be fully converted to driverless operation.

Expansion to Pink Line

In November 2021, driverless operations were also implemented on the Pink Line. An attendant was stationed on these trains for emergencies.

These subsections provide detailed information on how and when driverless operations were initiated, including the provision of attendants during emergencies.

Many Benefits

There are several benefits to having driverless metro trains. Firstly, it enhances operational convenience by streamlining the operation process, making it more efficient. Without the need for a human operator, the system reduces the possibility of human errors and mistakes. Additionally, the absence of a driver cabin allows for the addition of extra coaches to the trains, providing more space for passengers. This combination of benefits not only improves the efficiency of train operations but also enhances the overall experience for passengers by ensuring smoother journeys and more room for commuters.

Delhi Metro To Buy 52 Trains

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will purchase 52 trains (312 metro coaches) for the fourth phase of the metro network in New Delhi, aimed at implementing driverless metro operations. Encouraged by the success of driverless operations on the Magenta and Pink lines, DMRC is enthusiastic about extending this technology to the fourth phase of the metro.
