Banned Insurgent Group Claims To Have Planted 19 Bombs To Protest Against Independence Day

Independence Day: The banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) announced on Thursday that they have planted 19 bombs across various locations in Assam, aiming to disrupt Independence Day celebrations. The group claims that explosives have been placed in key areas across Upper Assam, including Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Guwahati, as well as in Lower Assam.

Police Detect Suspicious Items

In response to the threat, Assam police have reported finding “suspicious items” in several locations, including Sivasagar and Nagaon, as they investigate the claims made by the militant group.

ULFA-I’s Statement and Cancellation of Operation

In a press release, ULFA-I stated that the bombs were intended to demonstrate their strength, with explosions planned to occur between 6 am and 12 noon across the state. However, the group cited technical reasons for calling off the operation. They have requested authorities to safely recover and deactivate the explosives to prevent any harm to the public.

•Guwahati (Dispur Last Gate, Gandhi Mandap, Narengi Army Camp, Pan Bazaar, Jorabat Overbridge, Bhetapara, Maligaon, Rajgarh)
•Nalbari
•Rangia in Sivasagar district
