New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government Wednesday extended ‘Old Excise policy’ in the national capital for another six months.

In the meantime, the government has asked the officials to draft a new excise policy. Under the old excise policy, there will be five dry days during these six months, which will be on Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Buddha Purnima, Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha.

AAP government had switched back to the old excise policy after scrapping the excise policy 2021-22. Last year on August 31, the AAP who had introduced the policy withdrew it following allegations of irregularities and favouritism in granting liquor license.

Due to the alleged irregularities in the excise policy, Delhi LG VK Saxena ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the matter.

In the latest, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested minister in charge of the Excise department Manish Sisodia in the matter. Sisodia latter submitted his resignation from the cabinet, which was accepted by Cheif Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

As per the media reports, there are 570 retail liquor stores and more than 950 hotels, restaurants and clubs who have the license to serve alcohol in Delhi.

The Delhi government felt strong political tremors with the resignation of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia after being arrested in an alleged excise policy scam.
