92 CISF Personnel Getting ‘Poor Arrangement’ At RG Kar, Centre Moves Supreme Court

92 CISF personnel are still struggling to have proper accommodation and storage facilities after being deployed at RG Kar Medical Hospital.

Kolkata: 92 CISF personnel including 54 females stationed at the RG Kar Medical College are facing accommodation and storage issues. Citing the conditions, the central govt has written to the Supreme Court. The deployment of the CISF staff at the hospital took place after the SC’s order in the trainee doctor’s rape and murder case on August 21. The apex court made this decision post-vandalisation of the hospital after the rape and murder case that stirred massive outrage across the nation.

No place to stay, no storage

As per the govt, the staff consisting of 92 is facing a number of issues including accommodation, transportation, storage facilities for gadgets, etc. The petition submitted by the centre highlights inadequate facilities and raises concerns over the dire need for accommodation particularly for the female staff. The govt has also noted the lack of cooperation from the West Bengal govt and called it detrimental, particularly considering the current sensitive state of Bengal.

Common norm of West Bengal?

The govt has also stated that the security of doctors should be the top priority of the state government and that “the inaction of the West Bengal government” despite repeated requests reflects a systematic problem of West Bengal where non-cooperation under central agencies operating under the court’s directions has become a common norm.
