The final season of ‘THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY’, a teenage show that blends drama, romance, emotions and relationships all within the months of June through August, is finally here. The season kicks off with Belly and Taylor stepping into college life, wild how just yesterday they were caught up in such high school drama. Fast forward three years- Belly’s still with Jeremiah, having the best time of her life, but let’s be real, how long is that going to last…?
The first two episodes of the third season seemed to be moving way faster than the previous seasons did; it just felt rushed and hasty. It felt like too much was happening too soon, and there was no time to comprehend and absorb it all. But when it comes to cinematography and direction, it never disappoints.
Similar to the previous seasons, some short moments at the Cousins’ beach house, showcased in December, are easily the most beautiful part of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3’. There’s something so raw, soft and heartbreaking yet so magical about being there, especially around Christmas, the snowy beach, the silence and the nostalgia in every corner, and Belly always with her sunshine? Coz Jenny Han, we see what you did there, and honestly, no complaints!
The use of red and blue clothing for Belly, with the context of Taylor Swift’s songs to depict her chemistry with Conrad and Jeremiah, was extraordinary. The costumes define her character perfectly, and also her feelings each time she’s with either of them. Susannah once said, “For Belly, Conrad is the sun and when the sun comes out, the stars disappear”. Maybe Belly’s just waiting for her sun to rise again?
Fans have been speculating who Belly would end up with at the end of the season, since Jenny Han, in an interview, said that she would change the ending in the show from that in the books.
Since there have also been a lot of easter eggs, that indicates that the love story might be going in another direction. From crosswords, to movie posters, to even pictures of other characters from Jenny Han’s own universe.
The cast and direction have been top-notch since season 1, and the dialogues and scripting have been pretty good. But there did not seem to be an introduction to a lot of new characters, not for the first two episodes at least. There were a few, but they didn’t feel very relevant.
I pretty much liked these first two episodes in all aspects except the pace. The makers have announced the dates for when the later episodes will be releasing, and well, this summer is gonna last longgg…! The finale airs on 17th September, 2025, and the fans can’t wait!
Episode 2 ends on a hopeful note for Belly and Jeremiah, but the calm won’t last that long. Chaos is just around the corner as everyone heads back to the summer house for Susannah’s dictation ceremony. The stage is set as the main trio will be under the same roof again. Let’s see what the love triangle has in store for us!
