The hearing for the bail plea of Shariful Islam, one of the people arrested in the connection with the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, was held on Tuesday, April 1. However, the hearing was delayed because the police did not file their response in court.
Next Hearing
The court has now scheduled the next hearing for April 4. The police have been ordered to submit their reply regarding the bail application by then.
Shehzad Denies All Charges
Shariful Islam, also known as Shehzad, maintains that he is innocent and that the case against him is made up. His lawyer, Ajay Gawali, has argued that the FIR (First Information Report) was wrongly filed. Shehzad also says that he has cooperated fully with the police and that the evidence is already in their hands, so there is no chance of tampering.
Chargesheet Still Pending
The case is being heard in the Bandra Magistrate Court, but it may be moved to the Sessions Court once the police file their chargesheet. The Bandra Police have not yet submitted the chargesheet.
Details of the Attack on Saif Ali Khan
The attack on Saif Ali Khan took place on January 16, when Shehzad allegedly tried to rob the actor’s home in Bandra. During the attack, Khan was badly hurt, especially to his thoracic spine, and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital. He stayed in the hospital for five days and was discharged on January 21.
Police Say They Have Strong Evidence Against Shehzad
The Mumbai Police claim they have strong evidence linking Shehzad to the attack. They also revealed that Shehzad entered India from Bangladesh and stayed in various places in Kolkata before coming to Mumbai.
Earlier this year, Additional Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya dismissed rumors about fingerprints not matching. He stated that the police have collected enough evidence—oral, physical, and technical—to prove Shehzad’s involvement in the attack. He assured the public that the right person had been caught.
