It is confirmed. Another female member of Raj Kapoor’s clan, after Karisma and Kareena Kapoor, is ready to join the family business.
Riddhima Kapoor, who is none other than Rishi Kapoor’s eldest born, is all set to turn actor for a film starring comic virtuoso Kapil Sharma.
When I asked Kapil about the veracity of this rumour, he confirmed that Riddhima Kapoor is indeed going to share screen space with him in a comedy to be directed by Ashish R Mohan.
This career plunge comes as a complete surprise as Riddhima had so far shown no interest in an acting career. In an interview with me some years ago, her mother Neetu Kapoor had told me, “Touchwood, Ridhima is very happy in her home. We never stopped her from doing anything. From childhood she wanted to do fashion designing and said acting wasn’t her cup of tea.”
She added, “I must say she’s very gifted and an excellent mimic. She got lots of tempting offers, though. But she desisted. And I’m happy for that. This industry is sometimes harsh on women. Men have it easier. But a woman has to be very strong to take all that goes on.”
Earlier a report by Pinkvilla broke the news about Kapil romancing Riddhima in the upcoming film. The report quotes a close source sharing, “Kapil Sharma has gone lean for his next feature film, which will be directed by Ashish R Mohan (Khiladi 786 fame with Akshay Kumar). It’s an out-and-out comic entertainer, and goes on floors in Chandigarh by mid-April. It’s a situational comedy and the makers have roped in a credible ensemble for the feature film.”
The source also confirmed that the makers are trying to make it a theatrical release and details (including the name of the film) have been kept under wraps.
