New Delhi: The Delhi Excise Department raised concern with DMRC about changing its rule of carrying two sealed alcohol bottles and allowing passengers to carry only one bottle from cities like Noida and Gurugram. The Delhi Excise Department has pointed out that according to the Delhi Excise Act, only 1 litre per person, aged 25 or above, is permitted to be brought into Delhi from other states, with 2 litres allowed from other countries.

The excise rules clearly state that measurements must be in liters, not bottles. A standard liquor bottle, whether whisky, vodka, or rum, typically contains 750 ml. Therefore, two bottles amount to 1.5 liters, which exceeds the permitted limit.

In response to the issue, the DMRC clarified that decisions regarding permitted items on the Delhi Metro are made based on recommendations from the security agency. Passengers are expected to follow the existing rules and regulations of the state excise department regarding the transportation of liquor during cross-border transit. The concerns raised by the excise department will be forwarded to the security agency for further examination.

Presently, Noida officials have clarified that the current rule allows the import of only one unsealed bottle from Delhi or Haryana, whether via metro or road. The DMRC is considering limiting alcohol carry to one bottle to align with the provisions of the Delhi Excise Act.
