Delhi Weather Update: Relief For Residents! IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Thunderstorm, Light Rain To Lash Capital — Check Forecast

The weather change in the national capital has been attributed to the approaching Western Disturbance along with lower circulation features. Under its influence, heat Wave conditions are likely to become less strong from April 10 in Delhi.

Delhi Weather Update: After two days of intense heat, Delhi’s weather is going to see a slight change over the next two days. While the maximum temperature will remain around 40 degrees Celsius, it is not expected feel much hot. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for the national capital on Thursday. However, there is relief for the residents, as the alert is not for a heatwave. The alert has been issued for thunderstorms and lighting in Delhi. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 40.5°C on Wednesday. An increase in relative humidity levels has made conditions favourable for thunderstorm development over Delhi.

Delhi Weather Update: Forecast For Thursday, April 10

On Thursday, April 10, the sky will remain partly cloudy in Delhi. Very light rain/drizzle/thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with strong surface winds are expected over Delhi. A yellow alert for thunderstorm has also been issued. The speed of these surface winds is expected to reach 30-40 km/h. A maximum temperature of 41°C and humidity level of 51 per cent has been forecasted for Delhi today.

According to the IMD, there has been no large change in maximum temperatures over Delhi-NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum temperature is currently in the range of 30 to 41°C. Warm night conditions have been reported from many areas of Delhi.

Forecast For Next Three Days

Talking about how the weather will be in next three days, the IMD forecast indicates a brief period of relief from scorching heat. Light rain/ thunderstorm are expected over the national capital on April 11 and 12. The maximum temperature will also witness decrease by 2-3 degrees in the coming days. The IMD has issued a yellow alert of thunderstorm with rain on April 11 and 12.

April 11: 39°C

April 12: 37°C

April 13: 37°C

The sky will remain partly cloudy on April 12 and will turn mainly from next day. No heatwave conditions have been forecasted for the remainder of the week. This is expected to bring little respite from the hot weather.

IMD On Summer Season

IMD Director General Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra earlier warned of an exceptionally hot summer ahead. He ruled out the presence of El Nino conditions for the upcoming monsoon and alerted of hot summer season. He told ANI, “We are not expecting El Nino conditions during the monsoon season. April- June to be hotter than usual, with more heatwave days likely in many states.”

Precautionary Measures

Residents are advised to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the effects of hot weather and increasing humidity. They are advised to stay hydrated, cover themselves when going outdoors, carry umbrellas and include water-rich fruits and vegetables in their diets. They should refrain from engaging in heavy physical activities during the day.
