Delhi Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Rain And Thunderstorm! Wet Spell To Continue Next Week

Residents are advised to stay indoors during stormy conditions, avoid open areas, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

Delhi: Delhi is currently experiencing light rain and thunderstorms, providing some temporary relief from the scorching temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, dust raising winds, strong surface winds on Sunday, May 18. Despite the rain, the weather remains uncomfortable due to humidity and warm temperature. Notably, very light to light rainfall/thunderstorm/lightning/dusts-storm occurred at many places over Delhi on Saturday.

Forecast For Sunday, May 18

The IMD forecast for today, indicates a partly cloudy sky with possibility of thundery development towards afternoon/evening. Sustained surface winds (speed 15-25 kmph) occasionally gusting to 35 Kmph will prevail during the day time. The maximum temperature is expected in the range of 41-42 degrees Celsius. There has been no large change in maximum temperatures in past 24 hours over Delhi.

Weather Forecast For Upcoming Week

Rain will continue to lash the national capital in the upcoming week (May 19-May 25). The IMD forecast has predicted thunderstorm and rainfall for most days of the week. Strong surface winds and drop in maximum temperature is expected to bring relief to the residents. The maximum temperature is expected to remain in the range of 39-41 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the IMD has ruled out any heatwave condition during the upcoming week.

May 19: The sky will remain partly cloudy with very light to light rain/thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) temporarily reaching to 50 kmph during thunderstorm. Maximum temperature will remain in the range of 38-40°C.

May 20: Partly cloudy sky has been predicted for Tuesday with maximum temperature of 39°C. Very light to light rain/thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) temporarily reaching to 50 kmph during thunderstorm is expected.

May 21: Partly cloudy sky with light rain/thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) temporarily reaching to 50 kmph during thunderstorm is likely on Wednesday. The maximum temperature will remain at 39°C.

May 22: Very light rain/thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) temporarily reaching to 50 kmph during thunderstorm is expected on Thursday. The sky will remain partly cloudy with maximum temperature of 38°C.

 May 23: Very light to light rain/thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) temporarily reaching to 50 kmph during thunderstorm. The maximum temperature will remain 39°C.
