Delhi Pollution: AQI Plunges To ‘Poor’ Amid Cold Wave; City Braces For Rain And Thunderstorms

The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded as 319 at 6 am today, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). A thin layer of fog was witnessed in different parts of Delhi/NCR as people struggled to keep up with the cold wave.

Delhi Pollution: This winter, Delhi is battling a toxic haze of pollution and constant changes in the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) regulations. The withdrawal, imposition, and reimposition of GRAP Stages I, II, III, and IV have confused many residents. Amid the shifting restrictions, Delhiites woke up to ‘poor’ air quality on Tuesday after remaining in the ‘very poor’ category yesterday morning.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Friday, January 17, 2025, revoked the GRAP restrictions under Stage III. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded below 300 at 6 am today, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). A thin layer of fog was witnessed in different parts of Delhi/NCR as people struggled to keep up with the cold wave.

Delhi Braces For Rain On January 22 And 23

A western Disturbance is likely to cause isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms & lightning over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, East Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh on the 22nd & 23rd of January.

Party Cloudy Weather Over Delhi/NCR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts generally cloudy skies over the city on January 22 and 23. There has been a rise in minimum temperature up to 2°C in the national capital during the past 24 hours.

AQI In Different Parts Of Delhi

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the following AQIs were reported in different parts of Delhi as of 6 am today: Okhla Phase 2 (320), Alipur (300), Rohini (332), ITO (318), Ashok Vihar (322), Shadipur (257), Mundka (343), Wazirpur (338), Jahangirpuri (318), Narela (305), DTU – CPCB (233), R.K. Puram (314), Pusa DPCC (316), and Anand Vihar (345).
