Delhi Pollution: Air Quality In ‘Poor’ Category, AQI Drops Below 300 In Several Areas – What Lies Ahead?

The weather body has predicted moderate fog conditions as of Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be centered at 27°C and 11°C, respectively.

Delhi Pollution: Delhi’s air quality improved to ‘poor’ on Monday morning after enduring pollution levels under the ‘very ‘poor category for the 8th consecutive day. A thin layer of smog engulfed the capital city today as the AQI was recorded as 319 in Wajipur, 202 in Alipur, 298 in Mundka, 257 in Jahangirpuri, 201 in Narela, 229 in R.K Puram, 265 in Anand Vihar, 195 in Pusa, and 304 in Punjabi Bagh as of 8 am.

The people are, however, still not experiencing much relief from pollution in the National Capital. The Air quality may fluctuate in the coming days, but it will likely stay above 200. The city may continue to be affected due to vehicular emissions, stubble burning, and industrial pollution.

Supreme Court had restricted the upliftment of GRAP IV of anti-pollution measures until today, according to reports. However, it is yet to be announced if the schools will continue to run in hybrid mode till the authorities issue an updated notification.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in most parts of Delhi was measured above 300 on Sunday, December 1. Amid ‘very poor’ air quality recorded yesterday, Delhi Police on Saturday night conducted vehicle checks to ensure the proper implementation and compliance of Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), restricting non-compliant vehicles from entering the city.

Trains continue their operations amid smog in Delhi. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the predominant surface wind today morning is expected to approach from the northwest direction at speeds below 4 kmph.

Sunday remained mostly sunny for Delhiites, with the daytime temperature recorded at 27°C, above normal, IMD said. The weather body has predicted moderate fog conditions as of Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be centered at 27°C and 11°C, respectively.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have intensified their efforts under GRAP-IV to combat severe pollution levels. Strict measures targeting vehicle restrictions and industrial emissions are also in place.
