This expansion includes the opening of the Krishnarajapuram – Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri–Challaghatta stretches, effectively completing the Purple Line. Upon inauguration, this metro line will span a total distance of 42.85 km, linking Challaghatta in West Bengaluru to Whitefield (Kadugodi) in East Bengaluru. This development is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours in East Bengaluru.

Commuters can look forward to a 10-minute train frequency between Challagatta and Whitefield (Kadugodi) during peak hours, with a five-minute headway between Pattandur Agrahara and Mysuru Road stations. Additionally, there are plans for short-loop services connecting Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Metro Station, Majestic, and MG Road/Byappanahalli.

The metro journey from Challaghatta to Whitefield is estimated to take approximately 76 minutes, with an affordable end-to-end fare of Rs 60. Officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) anticipate a rise in daily ridership from the current 6.2 lakh to 7 lakh passengers once the Whitefield-Challaghatta corridor becomes fully operational.

This milestone follows the inauguration of the Whitefield-KR Puram Metro section (13.7 km) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 25, 2023. The completion of these pending stretches marks a significant achievement for Bengaluru’s metro system, solidifying its position as the second-largest metro network in India after Delhi Metro’s 350.2 km.
