8th Pay Commission: Will Central Govt Employees Get Minimum 5 Promotions? Here’s All You Need To Know

The Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) scheme guarantees that central government employees will get at least three career promotions over a 30-year service period.

The Union Cabinet approved the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025, but the government is yet to finalize its members and Chairman. The central government sought suggestions for the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the 8th Pay Commission from the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM). The staff side of NC-JCM, in response, stated that the new Pay Commission should consider recommending a minimum of 5 promotions in service.
