Renault has been planning to expand its portfolio in India with a slew of new launches in the long run. The brand is planning to launch a new variant of the Duster, as well as the Kwid, in the near future. The new Kwid, which is expected to be a badge-engineered version of the Dacia Spring or the Renault City K-ZE, has been spotted testing under camouflage. A recent update has revealed that the Renault Kwid was spotted during its test run, and here are a few details that we have been able to gather after catching a few glimpses of the car under camouflage.
Going by the overall silhouette of the vehicle, it’s apparent that it would largely be the same as that of the petrol-powered counterpart. The electric version of the Kwid was originally launched in China as the Renault City K-ZE in 2019. The same car is sold under the moniker Dacia Spring EV, albeit with a different look.
The Kwid EV may be a close match with the Dacia Spring in the overall design. Key highlights would include the distinctive Y-shaped lighting elements, with a full-width LED strip that stretches along the front fascia.
Going by the exterior design of the Dacia Spring, The new Renault Kwid is expected to feature a rugged appeal with an enigmatic front fascia and a new grille. The European-spec model has an aesthetic appeal with headlights placed on the bumper.
The European-spec model has been equipped with features such as a 10-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, wireless Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Since the new iteration of the Kwid is expected to launch as an EV as well, it’s possible that it might have vehicle-to-load (V2L) features as well.
Dacia Spring: The Next Possible Kwid
It’s possible that the Dacia Spring might be launched as the latest iteration of the Renault Kwid in India. In international markets, the Dacia Spring is offered in a 65 hp as well as a 45 hp version. The 65 hp version offers a range of around 140 miles and a charging time from 20% to 80% in just 45 minutes. This version is capable of producing a maximum output of 48 kW.
The 45 hp version has a range of 140 miles, with 33 kW maximum power, and charges from 20% to 100% in under 5 hours. Both versions are expected to feature V2L technology as well. It’s possible that the Kwid might be launched in both ICE and EV variants. The previous ICE version had garnered strong sales in the hatchback segment. Based on that success, Renault might launch a conventional petrol-powered version once again.
