The recent heightened conflict between Israel and Iran has led to significant devastation on both sides. A recent report has detailed how the Electric vehicles parked at the ports could have caused significant damage to the infrastructure of the shipping ports. Being aware of the catastrophe these vehicles could have caused in case of air strikes, authorities had showcased their concerns and wanted to evacuate all electric vehicles from the country’s seaports. The report further suggested that all EV’sparked at the port of Hafifa and Ashdod should be moved. The EV’s could have caused severe collateral damage to the Hafifa port which is the busiest port in Israel, impacting the 20 million tons of cargo that passes through the port every year, hence it could have been an attractive target for Iran.
Why Israel Sought To Evacuate All Ev’s out of the ports
EV fires are often hard to extinguish in case of fire EV batteries often go through a thermal runaway and each individual cell catches on fire as the fire increases. The incidents of severe fires have caused a significant issue world over. While EV’s do not showcase any increased susceptibility to fires, once lit ablaze these are perpetually self ignited by the small explosions of each and every cell and are generally very hard to extinguish. These often emit intense heat in case of an accident and may cause extensive damage to the surroundings.
While the vehicles would not have posed any issues by themselves but in case of an air bombardment and air strikes the fire could have caused major havoc to the port which serves as an essential aid to the economy in the time of such conflicts. With hundreds of EV’sparked near the port any strike could have resulted in a fire incident that would have been really hard to manage and extinguish.
The concern prompted the Israeli authorities to order the car importers in the country to move the EVs out of the ports.

Beyond these it’s also important to ensure that you always use the original charger and apparatus to ensure that the battery does not experience any load. It Is advised to always refrain from overcharging the battery and try to charge in open areas to reduce the chances of such occurrences.
